Bullying and Friendship
This is a serious post about something that has made people sad and feel bad. This subject has even caused people to physically harm themselves. Bullying. I will be discussing what bullying can do and what people can get bullied for. I will also discuss friendship and what a good friend should be.
Bullies are people that pick on others and make them feel bad a unimportant. They go after smaller and weaker people in most cases. They can call you names, hurt you both physically and mentally, and they can make fun of you. These are only a few things that bullies do. They also spread rumours, turn people against you and blackmail. Bullying continues from preschool, primary school middle school, high school, university and all the way to work. I have a history of bullying and I have been bullied for many reasons. I have been called vampire because of my sharp and pointy teeth, giant and freak because I am tall and for my age, terminator because of my explosive temper and the way I fight, genius, Einstein, freak (again) because I am smarter than normal and considered gifted, werewolf because of my rare yellowish gold eye color and many more things. I have been teased because of me reading encyclopedias about history and science, reading a book about the elements and memorising most of the periodic table, I have been blackmailed and blamed for something I didn't do. But enough about me. There are different types of bullies. There are cyber-bullies, which bully you over the internet and social websites like facebook and twitter. There are also physical bullies, which hurt you physically. Then there are passive-aggressive bullies, who spread rumours and make lies about you. There are also verbal bullies who make fun of you and hurt you by saying things about you. When bullies are smaller than you they can also gang up on you. I know this from experience. Being bullied can cause you to do drastic things like self harm. There are many sad stories about students who have even been driven to suicide because of being bullied and pressured. Teachers tell you that when you have a problem like bullying you should tell a teacher but when you do they say that you should try and solve it yourself by talking to the bully/bullies. This almost never works and they will continue bullying you. They also tell you that if you ignore them they will eventually stop. This is not true. The best way to stop one or several bullies is to hit back twice as hard. I am not suggesting that you should walk around hitting bullies but that you should be confident in yourself and that you should not be scared. This a lot easier said that done but when you do life will become a lot better and more enjoyable.
It is very important to have friends because they will help you along a help you with your problems. You should be able to trust and depend upon your friends and you should not have to argue with them even though you are different. I don't mean that the occasional argument causes them not to be your friend but you should not have constant arguments. If you call someone that is bullying you a friend they are not. You should get new friends that do not make fun of you instead. It is nice to know that you have someone behind your back that will help you. A quote in latin from Plautus goes, "Is est amicus qui in re dubia re juvat, ubi re est opus" and it means "He is a true friend, who, under doubtful circumstances, aids in deed when deeds are necessary". This means that a true friend helps you when help is needed the most. To sum this up, a friend is someone who helps you when help is needed, someone you can trust and rely upon, and someone who would always support you no matter what happens.
Please leave a comment about what you thought of this post, if it was helpful or educational and what I should write about and discuss next.
